Recombinant insulin human, identical to natural insulin from humans, is a short-acting/fast-acting human insulin produced by recombinant DNA technology. Since 1983, there have been several licensed products based on recombinant human insulin, including Humulin R (Lilly), Novolin R (Novo Nordisk), and Insuman Rapid (Sanofi).
