Growth Hormone (Equine)

Development of Equine Growth Hormone

Equine Growth Hormone (eGH), also known as somatotropin, is a peptide hormone that is naturally produced and secreted by the pituitary gland in horses. This hormone plays a crucial role in various physiological processes, including growth, metabolism, and maintenance of body composition. GH stimulates the production of insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (1GF-1), which in turn promotes cell growth and division throughout the body. Since 1998, recombinant eGH (reGH) has been available as an approved drug (EquiGen-5, Bresagen). Natural eGH contains 190 amino acids, while EquiGen is a recombinant methionyl eGH, consisting of 191 amino acids.
