Some carrier proteins have been applied in granted conjugate vaccines: a genetically modified cross-reacting material of diphtheria toxin CRM197, diphtheria toxoid (DT) tetanus toxoid (TT), meningococcal outer membrane protein complex (OMPC), and Haemophilus influenzae protein D (HiD). Among them, meningococcal OMPC is a membrane vesicle extracted from Meningitidis.
Meningococcal OMPCs are antigenic components of the meningococcal-B vaccine (Bexsero) and provide carrier proteins for the H. influenzae type b (Hib) linking vaccine (PedvaxHIB). Meningococcal OMPC is an ideal carrier for the Pfs230, the Malaria transmission-blocking vaccine (TBV) antigen.
