It involves delivering DNA-encoding protein antigens into cells to produce specific proteins, which are then presented to the immune system. While this technology can elicit robust immune responses, it faces challenges such as nucleic acid degradation and delivery issues. Various methods, including mechanical and non-mechanical, can enhance DNA delivery, but each has its drawbacks. Therefore, research has focused on designing non-viral vectors, particularly nanocarriers, to improve delivery and efficacy.

Virus-Like Particles (VLPs)

Protein-Based Nanoparticles

Protein-based nanoparticles are biocompatible and biodegradable but have low DNA loading capacity and lack cell specificity. Cationic proteins like protamine can be complex with DNA for nuclear transport.
